BOARD AND CARD GAME TOURNAMENT - BADGER 2
|
24th Sep 09
|
|
|
Following on from the success of the first BADGER tournament, GSM has once again teamed up with eclectic games in Reading to bring you BADGER 2 - IT'S ALL NEW. The event will take place on Saturday 14th November, from 11am - 8pm at Eclectic Games, Thames Tower, 37-45 Station Road, Reading (opposite Reading Station). Entry to the tournament will be £6 and prizes will be awarded to the top three players on the day.
The format will be much the same as BADGER 1 - when you enter you will be given a number. Find your corresponding number next to a seat at a table and play the game in front of you. The twist this time is that all games on the day will be brand new, hot-off-the-press titles fresh from Spiel 09 in Essen, Germany - the world largest board game show. Chances are that most, if not all titles will be brand now to everyone playing, which will level the playing field nicely.
Again, we hope to see you there on the day! |

Game, Setup & Match has teamed up with Eclectic Games in Reading to run a board and card game Tournament on Saturday 12th September. Intended as a friendly, social games day, the "BERKSHIRE ALL-DAY GAMING EXTRAVAGANZA IN READING" - or "BADGER" as we're calling it, will take place from 11am to 8pm on Sat 12th Sep at Eclectic Games, Thames Tower, 37-45 Station Road, Reading (right opposite Reading Station). Entry to the tournament will be £5 and prizes will be awarded to the top 3 players on the day.
There will be a variety of games on the day, suitable for beginners and veterans alike. On entry you'll be given a number which will correspond to a seat at a table. Take your seat and play the game in front of you! Once all games are complete, the numbers are randomised and you play something else! We're not revealing exactly what games will be played on the day - that's the surprise!
We hope to see you there on the day! |

SCENARIO: SETTLERS OF CATAN
|
31st May 09
|
|
|
Firstly, choose which player you would like to be. The player order for this scenario is as below:
Red - Player 1
White - Player 2
Yellow - Player 3
Blue - Player 4
Each player now receives the resources for their second settlement, as per the pictures below:
As you can see from the layout of the board - sheep are going to be in very short supply in this game with both the 2 and the 12 on sheep hexes, which will invariably have an effect on the end-game. The one blessing is that the 2:1 sheep port, effectively blocked off by the desert, will not be required. Other ports are going to be crucial for keeping sheep in the economy later in the game.
Red initially placed in the best space on the board, bordering the 6, 8 and 4. White then also took a great spot (6, 8, 5) close to both the 2:1 brick port and a 3:1 port. Yellow then took a spot in the centre of the board. Blue, getting 2 back-to-back placements, chose his spots, but placed the central piece last giving him the resources he needs to get a road straight away into the 2:1 stone port. Yellow then took the 6, 9, 3 spot close to a couple of 3:1 ports, and laid his road so as to make for the 2:1 wood port, as he now has 2 sources of wood. White took the spot giving him access to all 3 sources of rock, however he knew by placing here that his accompanying road would be redundant. As there were now no sources of rock left available, red placed his last settlement in the 6, 9, 3 spot in an attempt to get 2 sources of wood and beat yellow to the 2:1 wood port.
Red now took his first turn and rolled the dice - OVER TO YOU!
Please let us know how you get on with the scenario above, by either posting in the appropriate section on the forum or by emailing us your results. All we need is the total tally of victory points at the end, and any strategies your players decided to try.
Good Luck!
